The Living Room Cinematheque is a private micro-cinema dedicated to the exhibition and discussion of non-mainstream film and video. The Cinematheque’s mandate is to expose people to movies and ideas that they might not otherwise be afforded the opportunity to experience in a comfortable environment that’s conducive to discussions and reflection.
Films run the gamut from old Hollywood classics to independent shorts, foreign films, art films and documentaries. All formats are accepted and no subject is too taboo or too trivial for the Living Room Cinematheque, anything likely to provoke thought and discussion is welcome. Ideas for future screenings can be mailed to cinematheque@apfilmworks.com.
The Living Room Cinematheque is run as a public service by Nathan Taylor, a filmmaker and critic currently living in Calgary, Alberta. The theatre is quite literally his living room, set up to accommodate up to a dozen viewers in comfort. Screenings are irregular though attempts are made to have an event at least once a month. Donations are gladly accepted to cover the costs of films and exhibition equipment but payment is never required.
